Title

AN ACT CONCERNING ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS (ADU) for the purpose of providing for accessory dwelling unit requirements;  providing for the prohibition on the short-term rental of accessory dwelling units; providing for accessory dwelling unit rental requirements; providing for accessory dwelling units under the Woodland and Wildlife Habitat Conservation Ordinance and the Tree Canopy Coverage Ordinance;  providing for accessory dwelling unit impervious surface requirements; providing for accessory dwelling unit individual sewage disposal systems requirements; and generally regarding accessory dwelling units.

 

Background

This bill  concerns the regulation of accessory dwelling units in the County. State law passed in 2025 requiring Maryland legislative bodies to adopt a local law authorizing the development of accessory dwelling units. This bill concerns prohibiting short-term rental of accessory dwelling units; providing for accessory dwelling unit rental requirements; providing for accessory dwelling units under the Woodland and Wildlife Habitat Ordinance and the Tree Canopy Coverage Ordinance;  providing for accessory dwelling unit impervious surface requirements; and providing for accessory dwelling unit individual sewage disposal systems requirements.
