AN ACT CONCERNING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INDEPENDENT OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL for the purpose of establishing an independent Office of the Inspector General for Prince George’s County, Maryland; defining its mission to detect, audit, investigate, and report on fraud, waste, and corruption; creating an Oversight Board to appoint; providing qualifications, term limits, and reporting requirements; establishing guidelines for removal; granting subpoena powers; and ensuring budgetary autonomy in compliance with Maryland State Law.
Background
There is a need for an effective, empowered, independent County Inspector General, selected by a Board. Examined other jurisdictions that have such a Board to determine best practices of who appoints the Board, and how and which entity officially appoints the I.G. to ensure a non-political, qualified selection process.
