On December 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks resigned as Prince George’s County Executive in light of her election as a United States Senator for Maryland. Section 407 of the County Charter provides that when a vacancy in the office of County Executive occurs within the first two (2) years of a terms, a special election process be conducted in order to select an individual to serve the remainder of that term. Section 2-111.00.01 of the County Code sets forth the procedure for setting the required special primary and special election to fill the vacant office of County Executive. This Resolution sets for the timing of the special primary, special election, and deadline for filing of certificates of candidacy for a County Executive special election, as required by law.
